still without a telephone and television or the electricity to
power them. The hard work of the Amish has helped make Lancaster
County a garden spot-a patchwork quilt of beautifully tended farms
that produce more food than any other non-irrigated county in
North America. Lititz is located 8 miles north of Lancaster in
the south central part of the state. Lititz is a small town that
still retains much of the calm dignity of its original Moravian
founders. For its first century, the town remained a closed community,
admitting only members of the small Protestant sect. Large colonial
buildings to house members of the religion were built around a
spacious square. By the mid 1750's, only ten years after the arrival
of its first settlers, Lititz was an established village.
